Born into...

I think as new parents there are a multitude of things to worry about when it comes to the life of your child. "Will they be happy, healthy, will they be liked, will they succeed?" and on and on... As citizens of one of the wealthiest, healthiest and powerful countries in the world the chances that our children will also grow up with a healthy and fulfilling life with opportunities is pretty likely. Then I see a film like Born Into Brothels and I'm reminded that children everyday are born into situations that seem impossibly tragic with never-ending hardship. Children whose mothers, sisters and even grandmothers have to sell their bodies to eat. Yet these children laugh, play and sing in crowded, hopeless, filthy streets and find beauty and magic in their situation. This is an amazing film that all parents, of any country should see.

The Life Aquatic

Sorry we've been away for so long. The summer's arrived and we're off on the weekends for the annual family summer tours. The Bun was loving the new pool on the Memorial Day holiday weekend which was perfect since it was in the 90's. Actually, she had more fun putting stuff in the pool that wasn't supposed to go there - like dirt and wood chips. Already we can see we're going to have to buy some powerful pool accessories to keep up with our enterprising little aquanaut...
